Depression

Zero, Zilch, Zip, Zed, Nada, Nix, Null, Nothing, Pffft.

You have zero – I mean ZERO – desire to do anything. You just can’t seem to find it in you to care.

Isolated from your friends and family, all you really want to do is lie around in your comfiest sweats, or rattiest, pajamas, and binge-watch mindless television to escape the reality of your life.

Too many cookies, chips, and junk food. Alcohol is a daily “thing,” and your loved ones are worried that you’re overdoing it. Self-medicating with prescriptions or other drugs is escalating because it helps numb all the shitty feelings.

You’ve wondered what it would be like to just go to sleep and not wake up.

You just want to feel good again.

There may be days when things start to look up, but they don’t last.

Nobody “gets” it – somedays, not even you.

You can’t talk about this to others. It’s too… embarrassing.

It certainly doesn’t help when people tell you that you have no reason to be depressed. Or even better, when they tell you to just “get over it” and “smile” or “stop moping around.” Am I right?

I mean, you have a job, people who love you, a good life.

So, why are you so sad?

Depression hurts – physically and emotionally. But wait. There’s more… Along with it, you also get several free gifts-with-purchase of weight gain, sleep problems, hair loss, accelerated aging, and anxiety, to name a few not-so-fun things.

A by-product of continually living in a state of not having your needs met, either from within yourself or your current environment, depression is your body’s way of telling you that you need change.

Have you been neglecting self-care and failing to relieve stress? Are you bottling up your pain instead of addressing it?

Perhaps it’s time to change your environment or to find someone who truly understands your experiences and feelings.

What causes it?

Sometimes, it’s caused by a history of abuse. Other cases result from bullying or shaming. There are so many reasons.

It could also be genetic.

Whatever the cause, trying to function without addressing it can lead to even greater problems.

But, more importantly, what are you going to do about it?

You can find meaning and purpose.

It won’t get better overnight, but it will get better.

Once we address the scars, we work together on helping you develop self-care skills and healthy boundaries.

You will build self-confidence that will help you escape the darkness and feel like you can finally breathe and have some relief.

You will also learn to be more aware of when your mood begins to change, and you will have the tools to address it in real time so that you can work to prevent depression from taking over again.
